That’s pretty great you were able to experiment with Nutella to see how it would feel to have some. Thank you for writing about this.

I love how you said you are going to do some work on why you feel the need to finish the jar, that’s interesting. I certainly see glimpses of myself in your words, especially the Last Supper! I do that. Yikes.

I like your intuitive eating approach!

Thank you, Donna! A few months ago, I read something about why people feel compelled to finish the jar of Nutella, the cake, the whatever. For some people this comes from being raised to not let food go to waste (the clean your plate club!). In my case, it's something more. Just knowing it's something I've got going on will help me be more mindful about it.

This is a great peek behind the curtain.

Just a few simple observations:

1. I love Nutella! I also wasn't exposed to it as a kid (at least not much), so when I came across it as an "adult" of 20-something, it seemed like some kind of magic

2. If you need help with what's left of your jar, you can send it my way and I will resolve this deep internal conflict for you

3. Seriously, the binging thing resonates with me a ton. I eat sweet stuff almost every day, but it's not until the very end of the day, and it's usually a lot.

Thank you!

1. As we discussed a couple of months ago, we're the same gen! From my little bit of research, Nutella first made it to grocery stores in the Northeast in 1983, but it was several decades later before there was wide distribution across the U.S. So that explains our late introduction to it.

2. Lol.

3. Not a nutritionist, but the "binging" late in the day *could* be a sign you're not eating enough earlier in the day.

Totally possible. I save up for the binge, mainly because I really enjoy it. I'm not sure I want to stop for psychological reasons, but I will also listen to my blood work! I have a physical in a couple of months, and in spite of being active and all that, I need to watch those levels closely.

Nutella has definitely been one of “those foods” in my life too.

It took a lot of permission giving, over and over to neutralize it. And then when I did, it kinda lost its magic.

I eat it at times, but it is rare. But if I do feel I really want it, I do buy it. And sometimes I enjoy eating it and other times less so.

And there are still times I enjoy a few spoons straight from the jar... but not is the same way I did in my diet-restrict days.
