wow!! This is fascinating! I've never heard of these islands and I'm a pretty well-versed traveler - loved visiting Panama back in 2007. Thank you for sharing your experience! I freaking love that its a matriarchal society!

Glad you enjoyed it.I hadn’t heard of them either and loved that I got to visit a matriarchal society. It’s something like only 12 to 17% of the world’s societies, and that even feels high.

Hi Kristi, I would have loved to visit there. What a fabulous experience for you and your husband. Thirty-five years ago, my similar place of peace and beauty was Pu'uhonua o Hōnaunau on the Big Island of Hawaii. I went back two years ago - I didn't recognize it at all, but the feeling of peace in me was still there.

I'm glad the peace was still there. That would probably be devastating if it was gone.

"It’s easy to get caught up in our own affairs and assume our way of thinking is universal, but stepping outside of that bubble is a reminder that the world is vast, and not everyone sees it the way we do."

This is such a great reminder! So happy you got to enjoy your vacation!
