Spring is here, how are you making the most of it?
Here's permission to pause, reaffirm what matters to you, and if necessary, start all over again.
We had a fairly damp winter (for Texas, at least), so I didn’t get in quite as much mountain biking as I normally do. You shouldn’t ride most of our trails here in Central Texas when they’re too wet, or you end up leaving mud “ruts” that erode or widen them. It’s no bueno.
But we’re now in the midst of a glorious spring. Hubs and I have ridden a few times in the last week, and it’s absolutely spectacular as far as the scenery goes. The wildflowers and trees are in full bloom, the grass is tall and technicolor green. It’s almost surreal this time of year. And these days feel so fleeting.
Last year, it was the most spectacular spring I have experienced as far as the wildflowers were concerned. Every few days, I would ride the trail closest to my house. There was one particular stretch covered in bluebonnets, and it seemed to become more and more incredible each time. Gradually, they were replaced by delicate yellow flowers that faded away as summer took over.
I cherish these changing seasons, spring and fall especially, since they are so short here. It’s that little reminder to hang onto the precious moments, because nothing lasts forever.
And yet the cycle continues.
There’s a certain grace in the shifting of the seasons. It's as if Mother Nature gives us permission to evolve along with her. And spring, in particular, seems to usher in this sense of renewal, urging us to reaffirm with matters and prompting us to embrace fresh starts. If necessary, we can start all over again.
I’ve been planting my own seeds and making shifts this spring to bring my life more in alignment with my values. It involved me pulling back on work that was draining me. I didn’t realize until I decided to let it go just how much it was affecting my wellbeing. That one shift has given me space to address the other priorities, which was the original intention, and unexpectedly it has brought more clarity about my larger purpose. It has also allowed me to connect with my body, commune with nature, be more present for family, prioritize wellbeing, and do things for joy versus achievement. But most importantly, it’s allowed me to make more space … for me … just to be.
How are you making the most of spring? What shifts have you made with the season? I’d love to hear more about what’s happening with you, friends.
Thanks for sharing these lovely pics Kristi. I used to live in Corpus and don't recall seeing any wildflowers like that! We haven't had much spring yet (I'm in Canada) but I am looking forward to a lovely reset when it does arrive.
I'm loving seeing the change in the way the trees look. It's not so much the rebirth thing as much as the change, I think - I love the way trees look during winter too, once their leaves have fallen and you can really see the branch structure, but now the inverses is happening, and there's plenty of color to see every time I go for a walk.
