I felt really comfortable visiting Nashville perhaps 20 years ago. It felt a lot like Richmond, and so did Austin. I'm not super surprised that a lot of folks have made that Nashville-Austin comparison before. Both cities have that sort of artsy-underbelly in spite of being surrounded by more old-fashioned thinking, with very progressive elements combined alongside more moderate and (some) conservative views. Overall, it's a comfortable, familiar feeling.
I know this is not your normal kind of article but I loved it. Describing the hike was great (maybe you should do a round up of all the hikes and stuff you guys do!) but mostly I loved hearing about the vibe as you went about town, especially that the band wouldn't play Devil Goes Down to Georgia for less than a hundred bucks!!! That's awesome. I mean, it's a very difficult piece to play I would imagine.
I hadn't heard, or thought of, the economic drive of women going to the concerts and movie but it makes sense and is interesting on a few different levels. The world is changing and perhaps this is an illustration of that.
Anastasia's welcome that you shared is lovely, I could feel the energy of it through your post so thanks for that.
Thank you, Donna! That’s helpful feedback, and it’s coming at a good time for me as I’m getting some professional feedback about my Substack this week.
Women have long held the so-called purchasing power, or so we were told, but it was around household purchases, major appliances etc. so this represents a shift to more empowered purchasing.
Good thing you were with the one man that matters :). An awesome weekend. Nathaniel Rateliff, Margo Price, and Patrick Droney were great at the Pilgrimage festival. Zach Bryant was good too and brought on War and Treaty and Lumineers for a couple of songs
Your weekend sounded like a lot more fun - well some of it - and more interesting than mine. I've never been to Nashville, so thanks for the itour.

There’s a similar vibe. As far as I can tell, Austin is still weirder and queerer despite the influx of new residents.

The duets were definitely the highlight of ZB’s set.
