We just returned from spring break in Kauai with our two youngest kids, where we soaked up the aloha vibes and gorgeous scenery. But I was again reminded of the barriers to body liberation.
I'm so glad you got to go back to Hawaii! I remember that trip to Lahaina, and how close in time it was to the tragic fire.
My own personal observation: I tend to get along well with people from Hawaii. Basically, their default setting seems to be "chill." That goes a long way toward forming a genuine connection with someone.
My observation is that you get along with most decent people. I’m in a place my life where I can finally appreciate chill. I’m not sure I could have handled Hawai’i earlier in my life. I was just a little too high strung.
"Too high strung" is a pretty good descriptive term of me for at least the first 30 years of my life! Of course, that's also (probably) a part of what initially motivated us to create and carve out our own paths, and you probably can't have one without the other... but you can (fortunately) grow out of the high-strungness.
At least, that's what I've convinced myself to be true!
Great insight, Kristi. Proper representation goes a long way toward helping all people accept their bodies and themselves. And the whale pic is amazing.
The blue of the water is as incredible as the whale pic. Good to hear you didn't let the swimsuit issue ruin a beautiful trip. Something like that makes you think.
